Since joining the company in 1994, Baldwin has overseen the company’s certification to ISO 13485 and EN46001 (CE), while achieving operational excellence. Previous positions include sales management for Sprint and PictureTel Corporations. He holds a BA in Economics and Philosophy from Bowdoin College and an MBA from Boston University.

Larry Blankenship

Larry Blankenship is a serial entrepreneur, engineer and inventor with more than 20 years experience in medical devices. He has been involved in the Colorado medical device scene since 1985, with several business development and product introduction activities including successful start-ups and acquisitions. Larry is currently Chairman of ValveXchange, Inc., developing an innovative and much needed new bioprosthetic implantable heart valve. Mr. Blankenship previously held executive positions at CardioOptics, IVAC, a division of Eli Lilly; Vitalmetrics, Inc. (acquired by Tyco); and the Valleylab division of Pfizer. Larry Blankenship was also CEO and co-founder of The Larren Corporation, a medical device development company later acquired by the Battelle Memorial Institute, where Larry served as Vice President of Medical Programs. Jim Chrisman is the Senior Vice President for Forest City, the development company who is working in partnership with the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority to create a nationally and internationally renown life science park. Mr. Chrisman is the principal in charge of the Fitzsimons project on behalf of Forest City.

In addition, Mr. Chrisman is responsible for office, retail, industrial and multi-family development at the former Stapleton International Airport which Forest City is transforming into a new community of 12,000 homes, 35,000 jobs and more than 1,100 acres of parks and open space.

Prior to joining Forest City Stapleton, Inc., Mr. Chrisman worked as a Vice President for the Stapleton Development Corporation, where he managed the conveyance of the property from the City and County of Denver to the private sector and the Stapleton Redevelopment Foundation, where he managed the preparation of the award winning Stapleton Development Plan.

Prior to that, Mr. Chrisman worked for Disney Development Company, Watt Industries, and Cadillac Fairview Corporation in southern California. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the local chapter of the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Administration and Management Science from Carnegie-Mellon University and a M.B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.

Chris Christoffersen
Morgenthaler Ventures

Before joining Morgenthaler Ventures in 2001, Chris Christoffersen was most recently the President and CEO of Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a Morgenthaler portfolio biotechnology company whose mission is to commercialize the Nobel Prize winning discovery of ribozymes for use as human therapeutics. He was formerly the Senior Vice President of Research at SmithKline Beecham, Vice President of Discovery Research at The Upjohn Company and President of Colorado State University.

Mr. Christoffersen received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado BioScience Association in 2003, the "W. E. Upjohn Award" for contributions in biotechnology in 1988, and the "Outstanding Research of Year" Award from the International Society of Quantum Biology in 1981. He received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry and mathematics from Cornell College, Ph.D. in chemistry from Indiana University and an honorary doctor of law degree from Cornell College in 1983.

He is currently a member of the Board of Directors at Avidia, Catalyst, GlobeImmune, Morphotek, and Replidyne. Christoffersen is also a member of the Governor’s (Colorado) Commission on Science and Technology, as well as the Colorado BioScience Association Executive Committee. Based in Boulder, Colorado, he is focusing on new biotechnology investments.

Derek Cole, Vice President, Investor Relations
Allos Therapeutics, Inc,

Derek has been in the financial and capital markets arenas for 17 years with 12 years of dedicated investor relations and communications experience focused on small- and mid-cap companies. He is currently Vice President, Investor Relations and Corporate Communications for Allos Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing treatments for cancer. Most recently, he headed the investor relations and communications functions for Myogen, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, through its venture capital financing, its initial public offering and time as a public company until its acquisition for $2.5 billion in the fall of 2006. Prior to that, Mr. Cole established the investor relations and communications functions for companies in the biotechnology, financial services and real estate industries. He has helped manage a broad spectrum of financing transactions that combined raised approximately $800 million as well as contributing to the research, planning and execution of four M&A transactions. Derek is also on the Board of Directors of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), serves as President of the local chapter and is Co-Chairman of the Steering Committee of the NIRI National BioPharma Roundtable.

Lisa Drake, Team Lead for State and Local Government Affairs

Dr. Richard Duke, Past President and CEO

Dr. Richard Duke is an expert on the mechanism of apoptotic cell death and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-mediated killing. Dr. Duke has published more than 60 publications on apoptosis, cytotoxic T-cell biology and basic immunology. Jill Sikora Farnham, Executive Director
Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority

Ms. Farnham is currently the Executive Director for the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority, after serving for six years as the Authority’s Director of Finance and Business Operations. The FRA is a partnership of the City of Aurora and the University of Colorado and is responsible for overseeing the creation of the Fitzsimons Life Science District as a world class environment for life science companies. The FRA directs the commercial developments in the District, including the Colorado Science +Technology Park at Fitzsimons, along with its partner, Forest City Enterprises.

Ms. Farnham oversees a variety of development issues for the Authority, including land acquisition, land sales, lease negotiations and management of developer contracts. She also oversees the Authority’s business incubation programs as well as its financial and administrative operations.

Prior to joining the FRA, Ms. Farnham was involved in private commercial real estate management and development in Colorado, working with various retail and commercial projects including the Inverness Business Park and the Denver Design Center. She also practiced as a Certified Public Accountant with Deloitte & Touche. Ms. Farnham is active with CREW-Denver, the Colorado BioScience Association and the Aurora Economic Development Council.

Jay Gershen, Executive Vice Chancellor

Dr. Jay Gershen is Executive Vice Chancellor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He has played a leadership role to create the University of Colorado’s 21st century Health Sciences Center at the former Fitzsimons Medical Army Garrison in Aurora. Furthermore he has been the point person for interactions and collaborations with the business community and has worked to reformulate the vision and strategic directions for the Bioscience Research Park at Fitzsimons. Douglas R. Henston
Chief Executive Officer of Solix Biofuels

Doug Henston is the Chief Executive Officer of Solix Biofuels. Solix is an early stage Colorado company that is developing scalable technology to enable the commercial production of biofuels from algae. Prior to joining the company, Doug was a strategic consultant in carbon mitigation strategies and renewable energy with Domani Sustainability Consulting. Dr. Leslie Leinwand, Director of the Colorado Initiative in Molecular Biotechnology
University of Colorado

Dr. Leinwand is a Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) Professor and Director of the Colorado Initiative in Molecular Biotechnology. She has been at the University of Colorado since 1995. She was recruited here to be Chair of MCDB. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, her PhD from Yale University and did post-doctoral training at Rockefeller University. She joined the faculty at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York in 1981 and remained there until moving to Colorado. While at Albert Einstein she became a Full Professor and was Director of the Cardiovascular Research Center. Once moved to Colorado, along with Michael Bristow, she founded the intercampus University of Colorado Cardiovascular Institute which promotes research and training in cardiovascular disease. They, along with Eric Olson at the University of Texas, Southwester Medical Center, founded Myogen, Inc. which was recently sold to Gilead Pharmaceuticals. Her work as a cardiac biologist is of importance to both basic scientists and clinicians. The interests of Dr. Leinwand’s laboratory are the genetics and molecular physiology of inherited diseases of the heart. The study of these diseases has required multidisciplinary approaches, involving molecular biology, mouse genetics, mouse cardiac physiology, and the analysis of human tissues. To accomplish this, Dr. Leinwand has developed a highly collaborative group in Boulder, bringing together specialized basic scientists and clinical cardiologists. Her laboratory’s efforts are well-funded by multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health and her teaching is recognized by funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Professor Program. She is also the Principle Investigator of the HHMI program called the Biological Sciences Initiative which supports undergraduate research, K-12 outreach and educational programs for high school teachers.

Chris Lepore

John M. Poate, Vice President of Research and Technology Transfer

John Poate is Vice President of Research and Technology Transfer, Colorado School of Mines; a position he assumed in January 2006. Prior to assuming his present position, he was Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Axcelis Technologies; a position he assumed in June, 2000. He was also Dean, from 1997 – 2000, of the College of Science and Liberal Arts of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). The bulk of Poate’s research career was spent at Bell Labs as Department Head of the Silicon Processing Research Department.

Poate obtained his BSc and MSc in Physics from Melbourne University and PhD in Nuclear Physics from The Australian National University. He has over 300 publications in archival journals and 12 patents. He is past President and Councillor of the Materials Research Society and past Chair of the Division of Materials Physics of the American Physical Society. Poate is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and Editor of Applied Physics Reviews. He is Past Chair of the Physical and Engineering Sciences Panel for NATO. In 2002 he received the John Bardeen Award of The Metallurgical Society. In March 2008 he was inducted as a foundation Fellow of the MRS.

Linda Pryor, Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs

Linda Pryor is Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs for Pfizer. In addition to serving on the Board of the Colorado Biosciences Association, Linda serves on the Colorado Civil Justice League Board, the University of Colorado School of Medicine Dean’s Advisory Council, the University of Colorado School of Nursing Board and is a member of numerous other civic and agricultural organizations. Rae Reynolds has 30 years of experience in marketing and business development in the biotech industry. Michael Salem, M.D., FACS
President and CEO of National Jewish Medical and Research Center

Michael Salem, M.D., FACS, began his tenure as President and CEO of National Jewish Medical and Research Center in January 2006, bringing to the position a combination of academic and business experience in the healthcare field.

A native of Washington, D.C., Dr. Salem received his undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis, and then returned to his hometown for his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed his surgical residency training at Boston University Hospital and George Washington University Hospital. He also completed research and clinical fellowships in Critical Care Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

After the completion of his medical training, Dr. Salem practiced and taught general surgery and critical care at George Washington University Hospital, where he later served as Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery. Later in his career, Dr. Salem served as the Executive Vice President of a healthcare company that develops and commercializes biotechnology and medical technology products from academic medical centers. He led the research and development operations of that company, building research facilities and programs and navigating the regulatory process to bring discoveries to the marketplace.

In his first year at National Jewish, Dr. Salem led a comprehensive, broad-based strategic planning process that included faculty, staff, Board members, the Council of National Trustees and healthcare leaders from around the world. The ten year vision and plan, approved by the Board of Directors in January 2007, is a compelling set of ideas and solutions that will result in the integration of research and clinical efforts at the point of the patient. The plan will allow National Jewish to continue to innovate and lead as a medical center, remain preeminent in its areas of focus, maintain its collegial culture and grow substantially over time.

Rahmat Shoureshi, Dean and Professor

Dr. Rahmat Shoureshi's areas of research include Bioengineering, Biomimetics, Autonomic Structures, Smart Buildings, Bio-mechatronics, Automation and Robotics, Intelligent Electric Power System, Advanced Sensor and Actuator Systems and Intelligent Monitoring and Diagnostics. He is the former President of the Colorado Alliance for Bioengineering and is Chairman of the Board for Colorado Nanotechnology Alliance and serves on several other boards.

Jim Skrine, Executive Director of Quality
Amgen Colorado

Executive Director of Quality, Jim Skrine, oversees the Quality Assurance, Product Quality, Quality Control, Validation and Compliance Groups for Amgen Colorado. Immediately prior to his current post, Skrine served as Director of Manufacturing and Plant Manager for Amgen Commercial Bulk Manufacturing in Thousand Oaks, California. There he had oversight for the manufacturing of the drug substance for six commercially marketed products; Epogen®, Aranesp®, Neupogen®, Neulasta®, Infergen®, and Stemgen®.

Mr. Skrine has been at Amgen for nearly seventeen years and began his career as a Protein Chemist in the Research and Development organization.

Mr. Skrine earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is currently a member of the Parental Drug Association (PDA) and serves on the Board of Directors for HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties.

Kevin Smith, Managing Director
Act Three Consulting, LLC

Kevin is the Managing Director of Act Three Consulting, LLC. Act Three was formed in July 2007 to provide advisory services to management teams and their advisors during times of dramatic change. Kevin provides the perspective of experience based on the nine years he spent as President of Gambro, Inc, and his prior service as an audit partner in the Denver and New York offices of Ernst & Young. Gambro, Inc. was the US holding company for the publicly-traded, Swedish-based Gambro Group, until its acquisition by private equity investors in 2006. The US operations of Gambro included the manufacture and distribution of cardiovascular (CV), blood separation and renal dialysis products and the operation of US and international kidney dialysis centers. As a member of the Gambro AB Executive Committee, Kevin was actively involved in strategy matters and took lead roles in many projects, including the sale of the CV business to an Italian group, the sale of the US dialysis business to a US public company for over $3 billion and the establishment of selected corporate functions in the standalone subsidiaries after the private equity transaction.

Rulon Stacey, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer
Poudre Valley Health System

Rulon Stacey, Ph.D. first came to Colorado in 1989 when he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of St. Vincent General Hospital in Leadville. He served in that post for 5 years. During that time he was recognized by the leading healthcare administration journal as one of the 12 “up and coming” healthcare administrators in the country for his innovative plans to address the issues specific to rural healthcare.

After a brief stay in Chicago, Dr. Stacey was appointed as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Poudre Valley Health System in Fort Collins in 1996. During his stay in Fort Collins Dr. Stacey has become nationally recognized for his innovative approach to working with physicians to better provide healthcare in a seamless environment. In 2004 the Poudre Valley Health System became the first organization in any industry to receive the prestigious Peak Award from the Colorado Performance Excellence Institute for their work on the quality process. In 2005 and 2006 Poudre Valley Health System was a finalist for the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Dr. Stacey currently serves at the Regent for Colorado for the American College of Healthcare Executives, and has been asked to serve as the only healthcare administration appointment to the American Hospital Association’s Committee on Governance.

Dr. Stacey has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a master’s degree in Health Administration from Brigham Young University. He has a Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Public Affairs of the University of Colorado at Denver, where he also was named a Milstein Scholar for writing the best dissertation of the year in 2000.

Dr. Stacey and his wife Linda are the proud parents of four daughters – Laura, Maria, Jennifer, and Catherine – and one grandson Braden.

Dr. Dan Stinchcomb, CEO and Co-founder
Inviragen, Inc.

Dan Stinchcomb is Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Inviragen, a biotechnology company focused on developing life-saving vaccines for emerging infectious diseases worldwide. Since initiating operations for Inviragen in January, 2005, Dan successfully raised over $5.2 million in grant and seed investor funding, established Inviragen’s product and business strategies, opened its office and laboratory facilities in Fort Collins and established key collaborations with international vaccine manufacturers, non-profit vaccine initiatives, government research organizations and university researchers. Inviragen won the CBSA Venture Showcase competition in 2005 and the Rising Star Award in 2007. Dr. Stinchcomb brings over twenty years of biotechnology management and scientific experience to Inviragen. Formerly, Dan was Executive Vice President of Research and Development at Heska Corporation and held scientific management positions at Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals (now Sirna, acquired by Merck) and Synergen (acquired by Amgen). Prior to joining Synergen, Dan was an Associate Professor in Cellular and Developmental Biology at Harvard University. Dan is an inventor on over 20 issued US patents and has authored more than 30 scientific articles. He received his PhD degree in Biochemistry from Stanford University and a BA degree from Harvard. Dr. Stinchcomb is also an Adjunct Professor of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Colorado State University.

Lynn M. Taussig, MD, Office of the Provost
University of Denver

Lynn Taussig recently retired as President and CEO of National Jewish Medical and Research Center and is currently Special Advisor to the Provost for Life Sciences at the University of Denver. Besides serving on Board of Directors and the Executive Committee for CBSA he also serves on the Board of Directors of Colorado Capital Bank. He is also a consultant to theBARDgroup, a Boston-based heath-care consulting company.

Greg Tucker, Vice President, Strategic Management and Operations
OSI Pharmaceuticals

Greg Tucker has 18 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He has worked in a variety of commercial capacities in larger pharma (Roche), mid-size pharma (Gilead), small start-up firms (Synergen, NeXstar) as well as the medical device industry (COBE BCT). His experience includes leadership assignments in business development, strategic planning, new product planning, marketing, sales, managed care, commercial operations, project management and strategic brand management.

While at OSI, Mr. Tucker has held a variety of positions in the Oncology Commercial Group. He served as Project Head for the Team that licensed the oncology rights to Novantrone from Serono. As Senior Director, Marketing and Sales, he was responsible for building and leading the Marketing, Sales,Training and Operations groups at OSI. Subsequently, he was promoted to Vice President, US Commercial Operations expanding his executive role in the Oncology Business Unit at OSI. Currently, he holds the position of Vice President, Strategic Management and Operations where he leads company activities for strategic brand management, project management, portfolio management and business decision and analysis.

Mr. Tucker holds a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas and a MS in Health Administration (specialty in Pharmaceutical Marketing) from the University of Mississippi.

Bonnie Vivian, President & CEO

Bonnie Vivian has worked within the medical device industry for 26 years. She began her career in the medical device industry in sales, held positions in marketing, and for the last 5 years has served as the President and CEO of Denver Biomedical.

M. Roy Wilson, M.D., M.S., Chancellor
University of Colorado Denver

Dr. M. Roy Wilson began serving as chancellor of the University of Colorado Denver (UC Denver) in July, 2006. UC Denver consists of a general academic campus with 7 schools and colleges and a health sciences campus with schools and colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dental Medicine, and Public Health, as well as the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

In addition to the board of the University of Colorado Hospital, for which he is the chairman, Dr. Wilson serves on the governing boards of the Denver Children’s Hospital, Auraria Higher Education Center, Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority, Institute of International Education, and the Colorado Bioscience Association. He currently serves on the Advisory Council of the National Center for Research Resources of NIH. He is an elected member of the Institutes of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Opthalmological Society, and the Glaucoma Research Society.

Dr. Wilson received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and his Master of Science in epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health. Dr. Wilson has been selected in “Best Doctors in America” for multiple consecutive years since 1996 and was selected again for 2007-2008. Among his many awards is the Association of American Medical College’s Herbert W. Nickens Award which he received in November, 2007.

Ed Wood, CEO
ArcScan, Inc.

Ed Wood was the founding CEO of COBE BCT, Inc, now Gambro BCT, Inc. Ed is now the CEO of ArcScan, an emerging device company and is serving on the Board of Directors of four medical device and biotech companies, both public and private. He volunteers for CBSA as well as homeowner associations in Morrison and in Keystone. He and his wife Janice are proud of the two sons they have raised in Colorado.
